IIFT 2018 ANALYSIS and ANSWER KEY

Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) conducted the Entrance Test (IIFT 2018) for admission into its two-year program in International Business, on Sunday, December 2, 2018. The test was conducted across various centers in the country from 10 am and 12 noon.

Pattern of IIFT 2018 was same as seen in the previous years. The question paper had 6 seperate sections. However there  was differential marking scheme for questions as in the previous years. There was a total of 114 questions. Here is the detailed analysis of the paper:

VA & RC

As compared to last year, the English Section was even more demanding. Talking about Reading Comprehension, the first two passages were real humdingers, however, the last three passages would have allowed the candidates to breath easy, if at all they gave it a look. This reiterates the need to have a quick brief look at the passages before choosing and solving one.

The VA section was almost at par with the standards of last year. The foreign words might have perturbed students with a weak vocabulary. Overall, a candidate with a sound vocabulary would fair quite well in this section.

We believe the sectional cutoff for both VA and RC would be 5 marks each.

GK

The General Awareness section was a mix of stock and current awareness covering areas like Economics, Sports, Books & Authors, Geography, and terminologies from International Relations and organizations.

The level of the questions varied from moderate to difficult. Some of the questions which had terms and names figuring in current news, terms and names like shell company, Elon Musk and Syntel would have been easily handled by students reading newspaper regularly.

We believe the sectional cutoff for GK would be around 0.8 to 0.9 marks.

Mathematics

The Maths section was definitely difficult when compared to last year’s paper. The questions in this section were spread more or less over all the topics and some really good questions were seen in the areas of Probability and Height & Distance.

We believe the sectional cutoff for Mathematics would be 4-5 marks.

DI & LR

The DI & LR sections could be labeled as moderate to difficult. The questions undoubtedly involved lengthy calculations, which some candidates might have found cumbersome. Some real teasers could be seen from the areas of Venn Diagrams and connectives.

We believe the sectional cutoff for LR would be around 7 marks and for DI it would be 6 marks.

Overall

Overall, the IIFT paper this year was comparatively more testing than the last year, which also applies to all the individual sections. As a result, the individual cutoffs for individual sections as well as the overall cutoff are expected to be on the lower side as compared to the last year. So, our guess is 35-37 marks for Delhi Campus, 33-35 for Kolkata campus, and 28-30 for the Kakinada campus.
